Kuala Lumpur: Malaysian media reported on Sunday that the two-time Girls’ singles World Junior champion and the 2018 Youth Olympic Games gold medalist – Goh Jin Wei had approached the Badminton Association of Malaysia via the Badminton Association of Penang, stating that she was hoping for a second chance and looking to re-join BAM.

The report said that BAM’s secretary-general Kenny Goh had confirmed the news, and they would like to meet with Goh to discuss the matter in more detail.

The 21-year-old posted a YouTube video on Sunday night (Malaysia time) to clarify the rumors of re-joining BAM.

“As everyone knows I quit the national team two months ago, I’ve lived in regrets every day ever since then,” said Goh in the video.

“I really wish to continue playing badminton regardless of any levels or status.”

“For now, I would like to continue my career as an independent player.”

“I am deeply honored to be invited by the national team to re-join them, it’s a huge honor for me to receive this invitation.”

“However, I knew that I am unable to give 100% commitment, and I could never fulfill the requirements and qualifications of the national team at the moment due to my health issues.”

Goh went on to say that she didn’t want to waste BAM’s resources and take away opportunities from other players, and she would continue her career as an independent player. Nevertheless, she kept her option open and might re-join BAM should her health condition improve.

Meanwhile, Goh Jin Wei replied directly to a comment below the video stating that she didn’t re-apply to go back to BAM.

It seemed that BAM was once again wanted to act politically superior to anyone else in Malaysia especially for the sport of badminton.

The way BAM responded to Goh Jin Wei’s matter seemed inaccurate and actually led to more doubts about BAM’s denial of the news about Lee Zii Jia leaving BAM to turn professional player last week.

Goh underwent a colectomy in 2019, announced her retirement from badminton, and left BAM on September 13, 2021, citing health-related concerns.
