Malacca: World No. 1 men’s singles Lee Chong Wei was awarded the Darjah Cemerlang Seri Melaka (DCSM) award which carries the title ‘Datuk Wira’ during the 78th birthday of Tun Datuk Seri Utama Dr. Mohd Khalil bin Yaakob, the governor of the Malaysian state of Melacca on Saturday.
There were total of 229 individuals received all sorts of state awards and medals at the investiture ceremony that was held at Seri Negeri complex located in Ayer Keroh, Melacca.
Besides 10 recipients who received the DCSM title, another 34 recipients were given the Bintang Cemerlang Melaka (BCM) title including the Olympic mixed doubles silver medalist Goh Liu Ying.
Lee attended the ceremony together with his wife Wong Mew Choo and his mother. He thanked the Government of Melacca and the head of state for that great honor and Lee admitted he also received some words of encouragement from the governor.
The World No. 1 told reporters that he is expected to play at Denmark Open, French Open, China Open, Hong Kong Open and the Dubai World Superseries Finals before the year ends.
