Taipei: Although Malaysia’s former World Junior champion Goh Jin Wei was ranked World No. 44th compared to World No. 59th for Japan’s Saena Kawakami, but the 19-year-old Japanese was able to hold off 17-year-old Goh 21-17, 21-17 to win the Chinese Taipei Open women’s singles title on Sunday.

This was Goh’s second Grand Prix Gold finals, she advanced to last year’s Indonesian Grand Prix Gold before losing to Busanan Ongbamrungphan of Thailand.

“Be able to play in the Chinese Taipei Open final was already a huge encouragement to Jin Wei, after all, she had been struggling so far this season. I hope she could regain confidence from her performance in Taipei, “said her coach Sairul Amar Ayob.

The last time Goh won an international women’s singles title was at the 2016 Orleans International, beating Fitriani Fitriani of Indonesia in the final.

In women’s doubles final, South Korean duo Chae Yoo-jung and Kim So-Yeong took home the gold with a 21-12, 21-11 victory over compatriots Kim Hye-Rin and Yoo Hae-won in 39 minutes.
