Chun Seang defeated Rajiv Ouseph of England 21-18, 17-21, 21-18 in his final qualifying match to make the cut. He will play Thailands Boonsak Ponsana in the first round of the main draw today.

Choong Hann defeated Thailands Poompat Sapkulchananart 14-21, 21-16, 21-14 in the second round of the qualifiers and played Indonesias Simon Santoso for a place in the main draw late last night.

Simon sent Kuan Beng Hong packing with an easy 21-6, 21-8 in just 20 minutes to remain in the hunt.

Choong Hann, a quarter-finalist at the German Open last week, was taken to three games by Indonesias Tommy Sugiarto, son of former world champion Icuk, in an earlier first round match before winning 21-14, 18-21, 21-18.

Beng Hong did not face problems against Roman Spitko beating the German 21-16, 21-13 but found the going tough against Simon.

Choong Hann and Beng Hong are in a race to qualify for the World Championships in Kuala Lumpur on Aug 13-19 and both need to do well in the All England, next weeks Swiss Open and the Asian Badminton Championships in Johor Baru on April 10-15 the last three tournaments before the May 3 deadline.

K. Yogendran won his opening match against Englands Nicholas Kidd 30-28, 25-23 but Ville Lang of Finland ended his run with a 22-20, 21-16 win in the second round.
