Jakarta: Malaysia’s Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani created a major badminton milestone by winning the 2026 Indonesia Open men’s doubles title, ending Malaysia’s 18-year wait for a championship in the event.

The professional Malaysian pair came from behind to defeat Indonesia’s Raymond Indra and Nikolaus Joaquin 13-21, 21-18, 21-10 in Sunday’s final at Istora Senayan.

The victory gave Sze Fei and Izzuddin one of the biggest titles of their careers, as the Indonesia Open is one of the most prestigious tournaments on the BWF World Tour calendar. It also delivered a significant payday for the world No. 8 pair, who earned US$107,300, approximately RM432,443, for winning the Super 1000 crown.

Malaysia Ends Long Indonesia Open Men’s Doubles Drought

The result was especially meaningful for Malaysian badminton because it ended the country’s long wait for an Indonesia Open men’s doubles title.

The last Malaysian pair to win the men’s doubles event at the Indonesia Open was Zakry Abdul Latif and Fairuzizuan Tazari in 2008. Eighteen years later, Sze Fei and Izzuddin finally brought the title back to Malaysia.

The win also showed the pair’s growing maturity on the biggest stages. After losing the opening game 13-21, they managed to reset, handle the pressure from the home crowd, and gradually take control of the match.

Raymond and Nikolaus started strongly, but the Malaysians responded with better discipline in the second game. Once Sze Fei and Izzuddin forced a deciding game, they raised the tempo and dominated the final stretch, allowing the Indonesian pair only 10 points in the third game.

Sze Fei-Izzuddin Continue Strong 2026 Season

The Indonesia Open title added to an already impressive season for Sze Fei and Izzuddin.

Earlier this year, they won the Indonesia Masters in January, also by defeating Raymond Indra and Nikolaus Joaquin in the final. That victory earned them US$39,500, approximately RM158,217.

They later reached the Malaysia Masters final, where they finished runner-up after losing to Denmark’s Daniel Lundgaard and Mads Vestergaard. That result still gave them US$19,000, approximately RM75,390, in prize money.

With the Indonesia Masters title, Malaysia Masters runner-up finish, and Indonesia Open crown, Sze Fei and Izzuddin have collected roughly RM666,050 from those three major tournaments alone this season.

A Big Statement on the BWF World Tour

The Indonesia Open is widely regarded as one of the biggest and most lucrative stops on the BWF World Tour, sitting just below the BWF World Tour Finals in terms of prestige and prize money.

Winning a Super 1000 title is a major achievement for any pair, but doing it in Jakarta, against an Indonesian pair in front of a passionate home crowd, made the victory even more impressive.

For Sze Fei and Izzuddin, the result strengthens their position among the elite men’s doubles pairs in world badminton. Their consistency across several tournaments this season has shown that they are not just capable of producing one big result, but of staying competitive deep into major events.

Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Now Among 2026’s Top Men’s Doubles Stories

Sze Fei and Izzuddin’s triumph at the 2026 Indonesia Open will stand as one of the biggest badminton news stories of the season for Malaysia.

They ended an 18-year national drought, secured one of the richest prizes on the BWF World Tour, and beat the same Indonesian pair they had already defeated earlier this year at the Indonesia Masters.

With two titles in Indonesia this season and another final appearance at the Malaysia Masters, the Malaysian pair have built serious momentum heading into the rest of the 2026 badminton calendar.

More importantly, they have proved that they can handle pressure, recover from setbacks, and win major finals against high-quality opponents. For Malaysian badminton fans, this Indonesia Open victory was not just another title. It was a long-awaited breakthrough.
