
Ho Chi Minh City: Malaysia’s challenge at the 2017 Vietnam Open fizzled out after Chan Peng Soon/Cheah Yee See, Chow Mei Kuan/Lee Meng Yean, and Goh Giap Chin lost in their respective semi-final matches on Saturday.
The fifth-seeded mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon/Cheah Yee See went down 15-21 to Riky Widianto/Masita Mahmudin of Indonesia in the first set. Chan/Cheah battled to 17-13 lead in the second set, but couldn’t hold off the Indonesian pair to lose the second set 26-28.
Women’s doubles No. 1 seeds Chow Mei Kuan/Lee Meng Yean dropped their semi-final match 7-21, 17-21 to No. 7 seeds Della Destiara Haris/Rizki Amelia Pradipta of Indonesia thanks to a series of uncharacteristic mistakes.
Thailand’s No. 10 seed Suppanyu Avihingsanon enjoyed a very comfortable victory against Malaysia’s Goh Giap Chin in men’s singles semi-final, seeing off the Malaysian 21-15, 21-15 to face compatriot No. 3 seed Khosit Phetpradab in the final.
