Odense, Denmark: Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan ended Malaysia’s 18-year wait for a Denmark Open women’s doubles title on Sunday, defeating Japan’s Hinata Suzuki and Nao Yamakita 21-18, 21-11 in the final of the 2026 BWF World Tour Super 750 event.

The Malaysian second seeds became the first women’s doubles pair from the country to win in Odense since Chin Eei Hui and Wong Pei Tty lifted the title in 2008.

Malaysia finished the Denmark Open with one title and one runner-up finish after Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik were beaten by Indonesia’s Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri in the men’s doubles final.

Pearly Tan-Thinaah Muralitharan End 18-Year Wait

Pearly and Thinaah had to recover from a difficult start against world No. 21 Suzuki and Yamakita.

The Japanese pair opened up an 8-3 advantage in the first game, but the Malaysians responded with seven consecutive points to move ahead 10-8.

Suzuki and Yamakita remained within striking distance later in the game, but Pearly and Thinaah held their nerve to close it out 21-18.

The second game was much more decisive. The Malaysians raced to a 9-2 lead and stayed comfortably ahead before sealing the championship 21-11.

Pearly-Thinaah Follow Chin Eei Hui-Wong Pei Tty

The victory puts Pearly and Thinaah alongside former world No. 1 pair Chin Eei Hui and Wong Pei Tty in Malaysian badminton history.

Chin and Wong won the Denmark Open women’s doubles title in 2008, defeating Indonesia’s Rani Mundiasti and Jo Novita 23-21, 21-12 in the final.

Eighteen years later, Pearly and Thinaah finally returned the trophy to Malaysian hands.

The Denmark Open is their second BWF World Tour title of the 2026 season after their Indonesia Masters triumph earlier in the year. They also finished runners-up at the Taipei Open and won a women’s doubles bronze medal at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.

Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik Finish Runners-Up

Malaysia was unable to complete a doubles double in Odense as Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik fell to Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri 8-21, 11-21 in the men’s doubles final.

The Indonesian third seeds controlled the championship match in straight games, denying Aaron and Soh the chance to reclaim the Denmark Open crown they first won in 2023.

That 2023 triumph was particularly significant because it was Aaron and Soh’s first BWF World Tour title together.

The Malaysians had entered Sunday’s final with confidence after beating world No. 1 Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae 21-14, 21-18 in the semifinals, but they could not reproduce that result against Fajar and Fikri.

Encouraging Return for Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik

Although the title proved out of reach, reaching the final represented an encouraging return for Aaron and Soh after the pair resumed their regular partnership following several months of experimentation with different partners.

The Denmark Open was their first World Tour tournament since committing to their reunion and continuing their long-term push toward the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Their run included victories over Takuro Hoki/Yugo Kobayashi, Aaron Tai/Yap Roy King, Hiroki Okamura/Kyohei Yamashita and Kim Won Ho/Seo Seung Jae before they were stopped in the final.

Fajar and Fikri, meanwhile, completed a strong week in Odense by adding the Super 750 title to their 2026 season.

Jiang Zhen Bang-Wei Ya Xin Win Mixed Doubles Title

China extended its hold on the Denmark Open mixed doubles title through Jiang Zhen Bang and Wei Ya Xin.

The second seeds defeated compatriots and world No. 1 pair Feng Yan Zhe and Huang Dong Ping 21-18, 8-21, 21-16 in an all-Chinese final.

Jiang and Wei took the opening game before Feng and Huang responded emphatically in the second. The deciding game went to Jiang and Wei 21-16, ending Feng and Huang’s bid for a fourth consecutive Denmark Open title.

China Extend Denmark Open Mixed Doubles Streak

The result means a Chinese pair has now won the Denmark Open mixed doubles title for five consecutive editions.

Zheng Si Wei and Huang Ya Qiong began the run in 2022 before Feng Yan Zhe and Huang Dong Ping won three straight championships in 2023, 2024 and 2025.

Jiang Zhen Bang and Wei Ya Xin continued that sequence in 2026 while also reversing their defeats to Feng and Huang in the Denmark Open finals of the previous two years.

Malaysia Finish Denmark Open With One Title and One Runner-Up

The 2026 Denmark Open ultimately produced contrasting outcomes for Malaysia’s two finalists.

Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan delivered the breakthrough result, ending an 18-year national wait in women’s doubles and adding another major title to their growing record.

Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik fell one match short of repeating their 2023 success, but their run to the final provided an encouraging start to the next phase of their reunited partnership.
