Paris, France, October 25, 2026: South Korea’s An Se Young captured the 2026 French Open women’s singles title after coming from a game down to defeat India’s P. V. Sindhu 16-21, 21-11, 21-12 on Sunday, completing back-to-back BWF World Tour Super 750 triumphs following her Denmark Open victory a week earlier.

Malaysia, meanwhile, endured a disappointing start to the championship day at Arena Grand Paris as Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan finished runners-up in women’s doubles, while Hoo Pang Ron and Lai Pei Jing also fell short in the mixed doubles final.
Pearly and Thinaah lost 21-10, 17-21, 16-21 to Japan’s Yuki Fukushima and Mayu Matsumoto despite winning the opening game convincingly. In mixed doubles, China’s top seeds Feng Yan Zhe and Huang Dong Ping defeated Hoo and Lai 21-10, 21-13.
The results gave An Se Young another major title, while Japan and China celebrated championships in women’s doubles and mixed doubles, respectively.
An Se Young Comes From Behind to Beat P. V. Sindhu
World No. 1 An Se Young continued her outstanding run of form by defeating India’s P. V. Sindhu in three games to win the French Open women’s singles championship.
Sindhu, the two-time Olympic medalist, made the stronger start and took the opening game 21-16, putting the South Korean top seed under pressure.
However, An responded decisively in the second game, winning 21-11 to level the match.
With the championship to be decided in a third game, An maintained her advantage and secured a 21-12 victory to complete the comeback.
The final score of 16-21, 21-11, 21-12 reflected a match in which Sindhu controlled the opening game before An took charge of the remaining two.
The victory completed a successful two-week stretch for An, who had also won the Denmark Open women’s singles title on October 18.
In Odense, she defeated Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi 21-23, 21-14, 21-18 in another three-game final.
Her latest success in Paris underlined her consistency at the highest level of international badminton, particularly her ability to recover after losing an opening game.

Pearly Tan-Thinaah Muralitharan Lose Three-Game Final to Japanese Top Seeds
Malaysia’s Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan were unable to complete a second consecutive title-winning week after losing to Japan’s Yuki Fukushima and Mayu Matsumoto in the French Open women’s doubles final.
The Malaysian second seeds began impressively, winning the opening game 21-10 against the tournament’s top-seeded combination.
However, Fukushima and Matsumoto recovered in the second game, taking it 21-17 to force a decider.
The Japanese pair then completed their comeback with a 21-16 victory in the third game, securing the championship with an overall score of 10-21, 21-17, 21-16.
For Pearly and Thinaah, the defeat ended their hopes of winning consecutive BWF World Tour Super 750 titles after their successful Denmark Open campaign the previous weekend.
On October 18, the Malaysians had defeated Japan’s Hinata Suzuki and Nao Yamakita 21-18, 21-11 to capture the Denmark Open women’s doubles title, ending an 18-year wait for a Malaysian championship in that category.
Despite Sunday’s disappointment, reaching consecutive finals in Denmark and France represents a strong period for the Malaysian pair.
They had earned their place in the French Open championship match by defeating Japan’s third seeds Rin Iwanaga and Kie Nakanishi 21-17, 22-20 in Saturday’s semifinals.
Earlier in the tournament, they also overcame Bulgaria’s Gabriela Stoeva and Stefani Stoeva 21-12, 21-15 in the quarterfinals.
The French Open final was ultimately decided by Fukushima and Matsumoto’s recovery after a one-sided opening game, with the Japanese pair winning the next two games to secure the title.

Hoo Pang Ron-Lai Pei Jing Finish Runners-Up in Mixed Doubles
Malaysia’s Hoo Pang Ron and Lai Pei Jing were also denied a French Open title after losing 10-21, 13-21 to China’s Feng Yan Zhe and Huang Dong Ping in the mixed doubles final.
The Chinese top seeds established a commanding advantage in the opening game, winning 21-10.
Hoo and Lai improved their score in the second game but were unable to overturn the deficit, with Feng and Huang securing a 21-13 victory to complete the straight-game win.
The championship was an important result for Feng and Huang, who had finished runners-up at the Denmark Open the previous weekend.
In Odense, they lost the final to compatriots Jiang Zhen Bang and Wei Ya Xin 18-21, 21-8, 16-21.
Their French Open victory therefore represented an immediate return to winning form after that defeat.
For Hoo and Lai, the runner-up finish concluded an encouraging tournament in which they defeated several international combinations to reach the final.
One of their most impressive victories came in Saturday’s semifinals, when they eliminated China’s sixth seeds Guo Xin Wa and Chen Fang Hui 21-13, 21-9.
They had also survived a three-game quarterfinal against Germany’s Marvin Seidel and Thuc Phuong Nguyen, winning 21-17, 20-22, 21-18.
Although they were unable to overcome the Chinese top seeds in the championship match, their French Open performance followed a Denmark Open semifinal appearance the previous week.

Malaysia’s French Open Campaign Produces Multiple Finalists
Although Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan and Hoo Pang Ron and Lai Pei Jing finished runners-up, Malaysia’s presence in both finals highlighted the country’s depth in doubles badminton.
Pearly and Thinaah completed the European tournament stretch with a Denmark Open championship and a French Open runner-up finish.
Hoo and Lai also demonstrated consistency across the two events, reaching the semifinals in Denmark before advancing to the championship match in France.
Malaysia also secured an all-Malaysian men’s doubles final at the French Open, with Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin scheduled to face Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun for the title.
The women’s doubles and mixed doubles finals were completed earlier on Sunday, while the men’s doubles championship match was listed separately in the tournament’s order of play.
