Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Finish Runners-Up After Strong Tournament
Although Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin were unable to secure the championship, their French Open campaign included several notable results.
The Malaysian sixth seeds produced one of the tournament’s biggest men’s doubles victories in the quarterfinals when they defeated South Korea’s world No. 1 combination Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae 21-15, 21-18.
That victory also allowed Goh and Izzuddin to avenge their defeat to the Korean pair in the quarterfinals of the 2026 BWF World Championships.
They followed that result with a 22-20, 21-9 semifinal victory over Indonesia’s Leo Rolly Carnando and Daniel Marthin.
The narrow opening game against the Indonesians was followed by a dominant second-game performance, sending Goh and Izzuddin into Sunday’s championship match.
In the final, they started strongly by winning the first game 21-13 against Man and Tee.
However, they were unable to maintain that advantage as their compatriots recovered to take the next two games.
Despite the defeat, their runner-up finish contributed to an encouraging French Open campaign for Malaysia, which secured both places in the men’s doubles final.
Christo Popov Wins French Open Men’s Singles Title on Home Soil
France’s Christo Popov completed a successful week in Paris by defeating Indonesia’s Moh. Zaki Ubaidillah 21-11, 14-21, 21-13 in the French Open men’s singles final.

That victory ended Lanier’s hopes of reaching consecutive BWF World Tour finals and gave Ubaidillah the opportunity to challenge another French player for the championship.

His campaign in Paris included earlier victories over Japan’s Koki Watanabe and fellow Indonesian Jonatan Christie.
