Saarbrücken, Germany, November 1, 2026: India’s P. V. Sindhu made history at the 2026 HYLO Open on Sunday, becoming the tournament’s first Indian women’s singles champion after defeating Denmark’s Line Højmark Kjaersfeldt 21-12, 21-14 in the final.

It was a memorable day for Indian badminton as Lakshya Sen also captured the men’s singles championship, defeating Indonesia’s defending champion Jonatan Christie 21-17, 21-10 to complete an Indian sweep of the singles titles at the BWF World Tour Super 500 tournament.
Denmark, Indonesia and France claimed the three doubles championships at the Saarlandhalle, with the mixed doubles final producing the day’s only three-game contest.
PV Sindhu Becomes First Indian Women’s Singles Champion at HYLO Open
Two-time Olympic medalist P. V. Sindhu added another milestone to her career by becoming the first Indian woman to win the HYLO Open women’s singles title since the tournament began in 1988.
The second seed needed just 39 minutes to defeat Denmark’s eighth seed Line Højmark Kjaersfeldt 21-12, 21-14.
Sindhu established a comfortable advantage in the opening game, winning 21-12 before completing the straight-game victory with a 21-14 result in the second.
The victory extended her head-to-head record against Kjaersfeldt to seven wins in eight meetings.
For the 31-year-old former world champion, the HYLO Open triumph marked her second BWF World Tour title of 2026, following her Japan Open championship in July.
It also came just one week after Sindhu finished runner-up at the French Open, where she lost a three-game final to South Korea’s An Se Young.
Her back-to-back final appearances in France and Germany provided further evidence of her strong form during the European leg of the season.
Sindhu reached Sunday’s final after defeating compatriot Anmol Kharb 21-13, 21-16 in the semifinals.
Her latest championship adds another significant achievement to a career that already includes a world title and two Olympic medals.

Lakshya Sen Defeats Jonatan Christie to Win Second HYLO Open Title
India’s Lakshya Sen followed Sindhu’s success by capturing the men’s singles championship with a convincing victory over Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie.
The seventh seed defeated fourth-seeded Christie 21-17, 21-10 in just 39 minutes, securing his second HYLO Open title seven years after his first triumph in 2019.
Sen, ranked world No. 14 entering the tournament, faced a challenging opponent in Christie, the world No. 6 and defending champion.
However, the Indian took the opening game 21-17 before winning the second 21-10 to complete the victory.
It was Sen’s first BWF World Tour title of 2026, following his runner-up finish at the All England Open earlier in the season.
The victory also extended his winning streak against Christie to three matches.
For the Indonesian, the defeat ended his hopes of successfully defending the HYLO Open crown.
Christie has now finished runner-up at three major tournaments this season, having previously reached the finals of the India Open and Indonesia Open.
Sen’s route to the championship included a 21-17, 21-13 semifinal victory over France’s Toma Junior Popov.
With Sindhu and Sen both emerging victorious, India finished the tournament as the only country to win two titles.
