Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, November 8, 2026: Malaysian men’s singles star Ng Tze Yong is eyeing a return to competitive badminton as early as December, determined to revive his career after a series of serious injuries and surgeries kept him away from the international circuit.

The former world No. 14, who won a silver medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, is considering the Algeria International Series from December 2 to 5 as a possible starting point for his comeback.

Although his world ranking and ranking points have fallen to zero following his prolonged absence, the 26-year-old remains motivated by his love for badminton and the opportunity to compete again.

Ng Tze Yong Determined to Return to Competitive Badminton

Speaking during an exhibition event in Brisbane, Australia, on Saturday, November 7, Ng acknowledged that his repeated injury setbacks had tested his determination to continue playing.

“At first, I also thought about giving up the sport,” Ng admitted, according to the Chinese-language report.

However, the Malaysian shuttler explained that his continuing love for badminton has kept him motivated throughout the difficult recovery process.

That passion is now driving his efforts to make another comeback, even after spending much of the past two years recovering from injuries rather than competing.

Overcoming Back Surgeries and a Serious Knee Injury

Ng’s career was interrupted in 2024 when a severe back injury required two surgeries, ultimately ruling him out of the Paris Olympic Games.

After months of rehabilitation, he finally returned to competition in April 2025, raising hopes that he could begin rebuilding his international career.

Unfortunately, his comeback was short-lived.

Just one month after returning, Ng suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee, requiring another operation and forcing him into a further extended absence from competitive badminton.

The succession of injuries presented a significant challenge for a player who had previously established himself among the world’s top 15 men’s singles competitors.

Despite those setbacks, Ng has continued working toward a return rather than closing the door on his playing career.

December’s Algeria International Series Could Mark a Fresh Start

Ng’s potential appearance at the Algeria International Series, scheduled for December 2–5, 2026, would represent an important first step toward rebuilding his career.

Having left the Badminton Association of Malaysia’s national setup at the end of June 2026, he faces the challenge of restarting his international journey without an active world ranking.

The Algeria tournament remains a possible comeback event rather than a confirmed entry, but it offers a near-term target as Ng prepares to return to competition.

For a player who once reached world No. 14 and stood on the Commonwealth Games podium, the immediate priority is no longer chasing major titles or ranking positions. It is returning to the court, competing consistently and gradually rebuilding his career.

Passion for Badminton Keeps Ng Tze Yong’s Comeback Dream Alive

Ng’s determination offers an encouraging development for Malaysian badminton, particularly after injuries prevented him from building on his earlier achievements.

His experience also underlines the challenges athletes face when attempting to return from multiple major operations, especially after a long period without international competition.

There is still uncertainty over when Ng will be ready to compete at his previous level, and any return will depend on his physical condition and continued recovery.

Nevertheless, his message from Brisbane was positive: despite everything he has endured, Ng Tze Yong still loves badminton and is working toward another opportunity to compete.
