Incheon: Malaysian men’s singles coach Tey Seu Bock has decided to field Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin over Goh Soon Huat as third singles for the opening match of the team event. The Malaysia men’s team have a first-round bye, and will face winner of Macau-Mongolia tie in the quarter-finals on Sunday.
“I was told to get ready for the first match. I am happy for the opportunity to play, when my name is called, I’ll be ready,” said Iskandar.
According to Asian Games’ official rule, teams do not have to play the remaining games if a winner has been decided by a 3-0 score.
In the quarter final match, world number one Lee Chong Wei and world number twenty one Chong Wei Feng will be the first and second singles for Malaysia, while Commonwealth Games gold medalists Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong will play the first doubles, and Chan Peng Soon-Hoon Thien How will probably play the second doubles.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian women’s team also have a first round bye, and will play the mighty Chinese women’s team in quarter-finals on Sunday.
