Jakarta: On the fourth day of Indonesia Open, second seeds men’s doubles Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen of Denmark granted Fu Haifeng/Zhang Nan of China a walkover because Carsten Mogensen had to rush back to Denmark to attend the birth of his child by his girlfriend, Mie Skov.
Mie Skov is known as the best female player from Denmark to ever play table tennis. With both his parents to be the dominant figures in their own respective racquet sports, perhaps the baby would be a future star in badminton of ping pong.
Fu Haifeng/Zhang Nan will clash with home favorites Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan of Indonesia in the men’s doubles semi-finals, while No. 1 seeds Lee Yong-dae/Yoo Yeon Seong were handed the chance of possible revenge for their World Championships disappointment of last year when they battled for one hour and 21 minutes before going down 20-22, 23-21, 18-21 to compatriots Ko Sung-hyun-Shin Baek-cheol.
In mixed doubles, No. 1 seeds Zhang Nan/Zhao Yunlei of China will take on No. 3 seeds Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir of Indonesia, while Joachim Fischer Nielsen/Christinna Pedersen of Denmark will square off against No. 2 seeds Xu Chen/Ma Jin in the mixed doubles semi-finals.
