Kuala Lumpur: Goh Jin Wei who won a bronze medal at the Singapore Sea Games two years ago, surely felt confident that she could go on and improve her standing at the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games next month.
The Penang-born Goh told reporters that the 2015 Singapore SEA Games were very much different than the Kuala Lumpur edition, in terms of degree of overall difficulty that will be presented by players from Thailand and Indonesia.
“My goal for the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games is to give my best. This time I am going to face much harder opponents from Thailand and Indonesia because some of them have decided to skip the World Championships to play in the SEA Games,” said Goh.
Goh acknowledged that the player who could create trouble for her would be Busanan Ongbumrungpan of Thailand.
“Thailand are very strong in women’s doubles and the team event, especially World No. 10 women’s doubles pair Puttita Supajirakul-Sapsiree Taerattanachai has decided to play in Kuala Lumpur,” added Goh.
“Regardless, we hope to advance to the final of the team event, just like we did two years ago in Singapore. When the draw came out last week, we were fortunate to have been drawn to face Indonesia in the semi-final instead of Thailand,” said Goh.
When asked about how her training has been affected after Tey Seu Bock took over the women’s singles head coach position.
“I need to get used to the way he teaches and trains players,” added Goh.
Goh Jin Wei managed to make a surprise run at the 2015 Singapore SEA Games but lost to Indonesian player Hanna Ramadini 21-16, 12-21, 18-21 in the semi-finals.
