
Jakarta: A total of 488 shuttlers from 64 countries and regions will participate in the badminton world junior championship that will be held in Indonesia, at Among Projo sport stadium in Yogyakarta province from Oct. 9 to Oct. 22.
The 2017 World Junior team draw has been released by Badminton World Federation (BWF) on Thursday, defending champions China were drawn with Chinese Taipei, Denmark, Aljazair, Hong Kong of China in Group G1 while Malaysia were drawn into Group C1 together with New Zealand, Armenia.
As the host country for this year’s World Junior championships, Indonesia is eyeing two golds at the tournament.
“Indonesia is targeting for the boys’ singles and girls’ singles gold, and we are hoping we can at least make the semifinal in the team competition,” said Head of sport development of the Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI), Susi Susanti.
According to PBSI, Indonesia will send three boys’ doubles and three girls’ doubles to the championships, and will send four shuttlers for boys’ and girls’ singles as well as four pairs to the mixed doubles event.
