Seoul: The sad passing of Jung Jae-sung (also Chung Jae-Sung) has shook Korean badminton to its core. On Sunday, his former men’s doubles partner Lee Yong-Dae, family members and friends arrived at his funeral to pay their last tribute to the badminton legend, former World No. 1 and 2012 London Olympic bronze medalists.
Jung, 35, passed away tragically last Friday morning from cardiac arrest in their living room.
Lee Yong-Dae joined Jung’s other friends and family members as pallbearers for Jung’s funeral that was held in Suwon, near Seoul.
In January, Jung had participated in the torch relay for the PyeongChang Winter Olympics as one of the torch bearer.
A similar tragedy also happened in the sport of football last Sunday, when the captain of Italian football club – Fiorentina, 31-year-old Davide Astori was found dead in his hotel room last Sunday after a suspected cardiac arrest before Fiorentina was set to play an Italian league match at Udinese in northeast Italy.
The defender, who played 14 times for the Italy national football team, was discovered by Fiorentina staff when he failed to show up for breakfast at the hotel in Udine.
BadmintonPlanet.com would like to express our sincere condolences to Jung and his family. May God give him eternal rest and hope that our prayers can bring his family the much-needed comfort and peace during this difficult time.
