Jakarta: Susi Susanti, the Indonesian badminton legend who is also the high performance director of Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) told reporters that she was confident that Indonesia could at least reach quarter-finals at the Thomas Cup and Uber Finals.
Indonesian men’s team has been drawn into Group B in the Thomas Cup Finals which consisted Korea, Thailand, and Canada, while the women’s team has been drawn into Group D alongside China, Malaysia, and France.
“I am not worry about the drawing results,” said Susanti.
“The drawing results will not significantly affect our preparation and performance,” added Susanti.
Susanti said PBSI has developed proper strategies for both the Indonesian men’s and women’s team.
“We’ll take everything into consideration such as which country and which player we will be playing against and decide who we are going to field for that particular tie,” added Susanti.
Indonesia’s men’s doubles department is currently the strongest in the world with World No. 1 men’s pair, Markus Gideon/Kevin Sukamuljo and former World No. 1 Hendra Setiawan/Muhammad Ahsan as members of their Thomas Cup squad. However, their men’s singles are the team’s weakest links. If they could score one or two points from their men’s singles players, they should be able to beat any opponents in the Thomas Cup Finals because they are pretty much guaranteed two points from the men’s doubles department.
