Kuala Lumpur: The Badminton of Malaysia (BAM) has announced on Monday not to renew the contracts of BAM’s men’s doubles coach Cheah Soon Kit along with three other coaches including men’s singles coach Sairul Amar Ayob, women’s singles coach Rony Agustinus and women’s doubles coach Lim Pek Siah.
BAM general manager Michelle Chai told Malaysian media that the decision was approved by BAM’s Coaching and Training (C&T) Committee last week and all the coaches have been notified about the decision.
“BAM appreciate the contributions from the coaches during their time here, and we would like to wish them the best,” said Chai.
“The decision was in line with our goal of reducing the number of players and coaches within our organization,” added Chai.
Chai also revealed that the final list of players who are set to be dropped from the Malaysian national team will be disclosed in January of 2019.
Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin (men’s singles), Lee Zii Yii (women’s singles) as well as Woon Khe Wei, Tan Sueh Jeou and Goh Yea Ching (women’s doubles) have tendered their resignations to BAM last week.
Rumors have been swirling around lately that the Rio Olympic mixed doubles silver medalists Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying are also planning to leave BAM. It is possible that the pair will make their announcement after competing at the BWF World Tour Finals in Guangzhou, China.
