Kuala Lumpur: The senior level badminton life has started to kick in for World Junior champion Goh Jin Wei as she nailed down the first significant upset of this Malaysia Masters with a 21-14, 21-12 win over World No. 5 Akane Yamaguchi of Japan in the first round match at the Arena Axiata, KL Sports City on Wednesday.

Goh was feeling upbeat after her victory and she was also the sole representative for the host country following the exits of Soniia Cheah and Lee Ying Ying in the first round respectively.

“I didn’t expect to beat Yamaguchi. She made a lot of mistakes, but I am happy with my performance,” said Goh.

“I will try to do my best at upcoming tournaments,” added Goh.

The 18-year-old will face Zhang Yiman of China on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Soniia Cheah was defeated by Gao Fangjie of China 21-12, 5-21, 13-21 while Lee Ying Ying went down to Evgeniya Kosetskaya of Russia in 11-21, 21-15, 17-21.
