Copenhagen: Denmark’s mixed badminton team, led by Anders Antonsen, notched up a dominating 4-1 win over France in the opening Group 1 tie of the 2019 European Mixed Team Championships on Wednesday.

Anders Antonsen started the proceeding as he defeated Lucas Corvee in straight sets 21-15, 21-16, securing the first point for the hosts.

Line Hojmark Kjaersfeldt then saw off Leonice Huet 21-12, 21-8 in the women’s singles match to put the Dane up 2-0.

In the men’s doubles match, Anders Skaarup Rasmussen/Frederik Søgaard brushed aside Thom Gicquel/Ronan Labar 21-17, 21-18 to clinch the victory for the Denmark team in the best-of-five format.

The French eventually got themselves a point through Emilie Lefel/Anne Tran by winning the women’s doubles match against Maiken Fruergaard/Rikke Soby of Denmark 23-21, 15-21, 22-20, before Mathias Christiansen/Christinna Pedersen of Denmark sealed the tie with win in mixed doubles.

Playing without World No. 7 mixed doubles pair Chris and Gabrielle Adcock, the England team slumping to a disappointing defeat in the opening tie of European Mixed Team Championships against Russia, losing 2-3 to the Russian in mixed doubles, women’s singles, and men’s doubles.
