Copenhagen: The hosts and defending champions Denmark trashed Netherlands 3-1 in their second Group One tie at the Frederiksberg Hallerne on Thursday.
Denmark’s 2017 World Champion Viktor Axelsen gave his team the lead after easily disposing of Joran Kweekel of 21-11, 21-8 in 27-minutes in the men’s singles match.
Mia Blichfeldt contributed the second point for Denmark as she outlasted Gayle Mahulette 21-13, 21-14 in the women’s singles match.
Denmark’s men’s doubles duo Anders Skaarup Rasmussen/Frederik Søgaard had to dig deep but ultimately overcame Jacco Arends/Ruben Jille 17-21, 21-13, 21-9 to clinch the third point and victory for Denmark.
Netherlands got themselves a consolation point as Debora Jille/Cheryl Seinen emerged victory against Maiken Fruegaard/Rikke Soby in the women’s doubles with 16-21, 21-15, 21-17.
In Group Two, Russia who defeated England on Wednesday continued their strong performance with a 5-0 victory over Germany.
Meanwhile, England came back from Wednesday’s defeat to sweep Ireland 5-0 on Thursday.
