2019 Sudirman Cup: Malaysia to face Japan, China to play Denmark in quarters

Nanning: Having survived the “group of death” in the group stage, the runners-up of Group 1D – Malaysia was handed another tough draw in the 2019 Sudirman Cup quarter-finals as it will face No. 1 seeds Japan on Friday.

The knock-out stage drawing was held in Nanning, China, late Wednesday and was based on the world rankings released on May 14th. China has surpassed the Japan to become the No. 1 seeds with addition of 1,100 points, it also earned an easy draw when it was drawn to meet Denmark on Thursday in the last eight.

Malaysia was stopped in the quarter-finals in the last two editions, having lost to South Korea 1-3 and Japan 1-3 in 2015 and 2017 respectively.

The Sudirman Cup quarter-finals will be split up to two days. In addition to China taking on Demark, Korea will face Thailand on Thursday. If both China and South Korea win their respective quarter-finals, they will set up the rematch of 2017 Sudirman Cup final in the semi-finals on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Indonesia will play Chinese Taipei alongside Malaysia and Japan on Friday.
