Copenhagen: Last week, Malaysian badminton legend Lee Chong Wei’s retirement announcement had undoubtedly shocked and saddened the badminton fraternity around the world. However, on the other side of the earth, the Denmark badminton team was beaming in joy and happiness as two of its top Danish men’s doubles players were marrying their respective girlfriends.
Mads Pieler Kolding, with the height of 6 feet 9 inches or 205cm, married his girlfriend – Sara Winther Kirkegard, at a church in Denmark last Saturday. Kolding’s highest world ranking was World No. 4 partnering Mads Conrad-Petersen. However, after Mads Conrad-Petersen decided to take a break from Denmark national badminton team and international tournaments last November, Kolding was paired with Niclas Nohr, and they are now ranked World No. 156.
Meanwhile, the current World No. 8 men’s doubles player Anders Skaarup Rasmussen also tied the knot with his girlfriend early last week. Rasmussen and Kim Astrup are currently the top men’s pair for Denmark. They were the champions at the 2018 China Open Super 1000 tournament by defeating Han Chengkai/Zhou Haodong in the final with 21–13, 17–21, 21–14.
The 30-year-old Rasmussen is very active and also like to interact with fans on social media.
