Malang: Eight-seeded men’s singles player Sun Fei Xiang of China produced brilliant display at Indonesia Masters by defeating No. 5 seed Thai player Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk in the men’s singles final on Sunday.
The Chinese player didn’t face too much trouble to beat Saensomboonsuk 21-19, 21-14 in 39 minutes.
“Thanks and I was really moved by the support from the Indonesian fans,” said Sun after the match.
In men’s doubles, No. 7 seeds Ou Xuan Yi/Zhang Nan of China rallied from 15-17 to lead at 19-17 in the decider before seeing off No. 3 seeds Akira Koga/Taichi Saito of Japan 11-21, 21-10, 22-20 for the Indonesia Masters title.
China won their third title on Sunday when No. 8 seeds Guo Xin Wa/Zhang Shu Xian overcame No. 5 seeds home pair Adnan Maulana/Mychelle Crhystine Bandaso 21-18, 16-21, 28-26 in 68 minutes to claim the mixed doubles title.
Women’s singles No. 8 seed Wang Zhi Yi picked up China’s fourth title of the tournament when the 19-year-old had to dig deep to battle past No. 4 seed Porntip Buranaprasertsuk of Thailand 20-22, 21-15, 21-13 in 62 minutes.
In an all-Indonesian women’s doubles final, unseeded pair Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti/Ribka Sugiarto pulled off an upset to down No. 4 seeds Della Destiara Haris/Rizki Amelia Pradipta 23-21, 21-15, successfully keeping the women’s doubles title on their home turf.
