Kuala Lumpur: The World No. 1 women’s singles player Chen Yufei started off her 2020 season in style as she overcame Taiwanese top seed Tai Tzu Ying 21-17, 21-10 in the Malaysia Masters final on Sunday.
This was Chen’s second consecutive big wins against Tai, after she outlasted Tai in the final of 2019 BWF World Tour Finals last month.
Chen showed great patience and dominated her Taiwanese opponent 21-17, 21-10 in a 37-minute match, with Tai blaming her frequent mistakes for the defeat.
“It doesn’t make you better with the World No. 1 ranking, I’ll need to keep my current momentum going to maintain my confidence,” said Chen.
In women’s doubles competition, Chinese pair Li Wenmei/Zheng Yu saw off compatriots Du Yue/Li Yinhui 21-19, 16-21, 21-19 despite the No. 7 seeds Du/Li were putting up stiff competition over the 82-minute match.
The mixed doubles top seeds Zheng Siwei/Huang Yaqiong beat fellow teammates Wang Yilyu and Huang Dongping 21-19, 21-12 in the final to bring home USD $31.6k.
