Birmingham: In last Sunday’s All England Championship final, Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen defeated Chou Tien Chen of Taiwan 21-13, 21-14, becoming the first Dane to take the men’s singles title in 21 years, after Peter Gade won it in 1999.
However, the focus of the majority of fans was not on his achievements, instead, was on his nipple covers.
After he scored the winning points, Axelsen let out a scream and covered his head with his soaking jersey, exposing the mystery tapes on his nipples. He then took off his shirt and threw it to the crowd, of course, his nipple covers were being broadcasted all around the world through live TV and online videos.
Badminton fans must be wondering what in the world was he doing with those nipple covers?
Axelsen explained the real reasons behind his mystery nipple covers on a Facebook live stream.
“At the tournament, my sponsor Yonex wanted me to wear a set of white clothing in the match, and they had not washed the new jerseys. So, for the first few days, when I was warming up with these jerseys, I felt that my nipples were burning a little bit,” explained Axelsen.
“I am sure a lot of players who received the same type of jersey experienced the same problem. That’s why I put some tape on so that it didn’t not bother me too much in the final,” added Axelsen.
