Hyderabad: An online coaching training session held by Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Badminton Association of India (BAI) was abruptly ended last Thursday afternoon when 700-plus coaches across India saw pornographic images displayed on their screens.

Coaches that were “fortunate” enough to witness the incident including India’s badminton chief coach Pullela Gopichand along with Indonesian coaches who were currently coaching in India such as Agus Dwi Santoso and Namrih Suroto. Several women coaches, children and parents were among the attendees who took part in the training.

“Santoso, the new Indonesian coach, was the resource person when pictures started appearing on the screen. There was a momentary gap and then the images resurfaced. This happened a number of times,” said one of the attendees.

It was learnt that Gopichand logged out immediately after the incident.

“Even though this online session was set up only for coaches, but there were several women coaches, parents and children watching the online session, and those who ran the online meeting should be more careful,” stressed one of the coaches.

At first, everyone thought the online session held through the Zoom platform was hacked, but SAI clarified later Thursday that the Zoom session was not hacked, and said it was due to a ‘technical glitch’. SAI said in a statement that its IT department was investigating the issue “in detail”.
