Chengdu: The 2020 China Badminton Super League (CBSL) finally got underway on Saturday with the red hot Qingdao Renzhou Club, which featured many players from the Chinese national team, including Shi Yuqi, Zheng Siwei, Liu Yuchen, Wang Yilu, Chen Yufei, Jia Yifan, Huang Dongping, and Du Yue, has become the favorite to win the 2020 CBSL champion.
There are a total of eight badminton clubs, including 2018-19 CBSL champions Zhejiang Nengyuan, are participating in the 2020 CBSL league that will be using the 5×11 scoring format for each match.
The Rio Olympic men’s singles champion, Chen Long, is playing for Xiamen Badminton Club, together with other players from China national team such as Liu Cheng, Huang Kaixiang, Han Yue, and Li Yinhui.
All eyes were on the big boys and girls of Qingdao on day one of the league as the “All-Star” lineup didn’t disappoint by beating Jiangsu Victor 5:0. Shi Yuqi and Zheng Siwei did not play on day one. Meanwhile, the reigning champions Zhejiang Nengyuan was upset by the newly promoted Ruichang Biyuan 0:5, where Ruichang also relied on its star-studded rosters such as Li Junhui, Huang Yaqiong, Chen Qingchen, and He Bingjiao.
To protect everyone from the COVID-19 pandemic, all matches for the 2020 CBSL are being played behind the closed door and without fans. All players, coaches, and other staff are required to get tested and received negative results to be eligible for the 2020 CBSL season.
