
Jelgava: Malaysia has won 3 out of the 5 finals competed at the 2021 Latvia International which was held at the Jelgava Sport hall, Latvia, on Sunday.
In an all-Malaysian mixed doubles final, Yap Roy King/Valeree Siow saved a set-point to claim the first set 22-20 over Muhammad Nurfirdaus Azman/Low Yeen Yuan.

In the second set, Yap/Siow started to control the tempo after the interval to beat Azman/Low 21-15.
Despite the disappointment in the mixed doubles final, Muhammad Nurfirdaus Azman and the mixed doubles champion Yap Roy King took the court in the men’s doubles final against teammates Junaidi Arif/Muhammad Haikal.
After dropping the first set 21-23, Yap/Azman staged a strong comeback in the next two to beat Arif/Haikal 21-15, 21-19 to win the men’s doubles title. The Latvia International was Yap/Azman’s first senior title.

Valeree Siow who won the mixed doubles title with Yap Roy King was paired with Low Yee Yuan in the women’s doubles final. They overcame Martina Corsini/Judith Mair of Italy 21-14, 21-17 in 30 minutes to win their second senior title of 2021. Siow/Low won the 2021 Austrian Open on May 29, 2021.

Meanwhile, both Meiraba Luwang Maisnam of India and Polina Buhrova of Ukraine clinched the men’s singles and women’s singles titles respectively on Sunday.
