China Adds 6 Young Players to Its Thomas & Uber Team Lineup

Beijing: The badminton powerhouse, China, which fresh off of winning the 2021 Sudirman Cup last Sunday, has started focusing on the Thomas & Uber Cup Finals that will be held in Aarhus, Denmark, from October 9 to October 17, 2021.

China slightly adjusted its rosters for the Thomas and Uber Cup teams as it added six young players including Han Yue, Han Qianxi, Weng Hongyang, Wang Chang, Di Zijian, and Gu Junfeng to take part at the prestigious men’s and women’s team championships.

Five other top Chinese players such as Chen Long, Li Junhui, Liu Yuchen, Du Yue, Li Yinhui, Feng Yanzhe will not be playing in Aarhus.

Below are China’s Thomas and Uber Cup rosters:

China’s Thomas Cup Team:
Men’s Singles: Shi Yuqi, Lu Guangzu, Li Shifeng, Weng Hongyang, Gu Junfeng
Men’s Doubles: Wang Yilu, Liu Cheng, Zhou Haodong, He Jiting, Tan Qiang, Wang Chang, and Di Zijian.

China’s Uber Cup Team:
Women’s Singles: Chen Yufei, He Bingjiao, Wang Zhiyi, Han Yue, Han Qianxi
Women’s Doubles: Huang Dongping, Chen Qingchen, Jia Yifan, Zheng Yu, Li Wenmei, Liu Xuanxuan, and Xia Yuting.

China’s Thomas Cup team was drawn into Group C of Thomas Cup alongside India, Netherlands, Tahiti, while it was grouped with Denmark, Malaysia, and Canada in the Uber Cup group stage.

China has won a total of 10 Thomas Cup titles since its first participation in 1982. Indonesia has won a total of 13 Thomas Cup titles since 1958.

Meanwhile, China is the most successful team in Uber Cup, having won fourteen times. Japan came second with six times, followed by Indonesia and the United States, each won a total of three Uber Cups respectively.
