Bali: Men’s doubles World No. 14 – Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi of Malaysia has advanced to the second round of the 2021 Indonesia Masters on Tuesday.

Ong/Teo took 40 minutes to overcome World No. 11 Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty of India 21-17, 21-15.

After the win, Ong/Teo took to Facebook and said:
“Thank you for your supports.
We have made it to another stage today.
We will keep on fighting and play better on the next game.”

The Malaysians will play World No. 138 Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani of Indonesia next.

On Tuesday, Gutama/Isfahani defeated another Malaysian pair – Tan Wee Kiong/Tan Kian Meng 13-21, 21-14, 21-17 in the first round.

Malaysia’s World No. 19 Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin also got off to a good start to overcome Korea’s scratch pair – Kang Minhyuk/Seo Seungjae 21-10, 21-17. Goh/Izzuddin will play Indonesia’s Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Bagas Maulana in the second round.

Meanwhile, the World No. 31 Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Bagas Maulana pulled off a huge upset on day one of Indonesia Masters to beat their seniors – World No. 6 Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto 13-21, 21-18, 22-20 in 61 minutes.

Before beating Alfian/Ardianto, Fikri/Maulana already proved they were able to beat any higher-ranked pairs in the world as they saw off World No. 1 Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Marcus Fernaldi Gideon in the last 16 of the 2021 Denmark Open about one month ago.

“Yes, I am happy with the result because I could play all-out to beat my seniors,” said Fikri.

“We were playing without pressure and the victory has given us more confidence,” added Fikri.

Fajar Alfian also praised his juniors for their outstanding performance.

“Indeed, this result was not what we wanted, but we have tried our best. It’s just that our opponents were playing very well, they have nothing to lose,” said Alfian.

“They really wanted to show their abilities in front of everyone, in front of their seniors,” added Alfian.
