Bali: Korea’s 19-year-old An Seyoung finally won the biggest title of her young badminton career, beating PV Sindhu of India 21-16, 21-12 on Sunday for her first BWF World Tour Finals title.

The Korean got the better of Sindhu in 39 minutes to become the first Korean women’s singles player to ever triumph at either the BWF Super Series Finals or the BWF World Tour Finals.

Before the BWF World Tour Finals title, An had won both the 2021 Indonesia Masters and Indonesia Open that were also held at the same city in the last three weeks.

In mixed doubles, Thailand’s Dechapol Puavaranukroh/Sapsiree Taerattanachai successfully captured all titles from the 2021 Indonesia Badminton Festival (IBF) which consisted of the Indonesia Masters, Indonesia Open, and the 2021 BWF World Tour Finals.

They beat Japanese pair Yuta Watanabe/Arisa Higashino in two straight games 21-19, 21-11 on Sunday to complete their achievement.

“I am very happy. This is so amazing!” said Sapsiree Taerattanachai after the match in Nusa Dua, Bali.

Dechapol Puavaranukroh admitted they had spent months preparing for the three tournaments before arriving in Bali.

“Before coming here, we had prepared two or three months in advance. We finally did it and we are really happy,” said Puavaranukroh.

After the BWF World Tour Finals, Puavaranukroh/Taerattanachai will fly to Huelva, Spain to take part in the 2021 BWF World Championships.

“Winning three titles in Indonesia had boosted our confidence,” added Taerattanachai.

“But we don’t want to give ourselves too much pressure at the World Championships. We still have one week of recovery time and we just want to think about one game at a time,” concluded Taerattanachai.

The Korean team picked up another title on Sunday through Kim Soyeong/Kong Heeyong when they overcame Nami Matsuyama/Chiharu Shida of Japan 21-14, 21-14 in the women’s doubles final.
