Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia’s two-time world junior girls’ singles champion, Goh Jin Wei filed an appeal on Tuesday hoping to resolve the two-year ban conflict between her and BAM.
Last Friday, BAM announced that the association would not register world No. 7 men’s singles player Lee Zii Jia and the former World Junior champion Goh Jin Wei for any international tournaments for two years after both players decided to leave BAM and to become professional players.
The secretary-general of BAM Kenny Goh told Malaysian media that Goh had emailed them the appeal letter on Tuesday.
“We just received the appeal letter from her. Therefore, we are going through the necessary process right now,” said Goh.
BAM slapped Goh with a 2-year-ban effective Oct 31, 2021, in the announcement made last Friday.
Goh quit BAM last September citing after her colectomy surgery (colectomy is surgery to remove part or all of the large intestine also called the colon), she has to take medication daily, and she could no longer withstand and give 100% commitment to the training intensity at Malaysian national team.
In January of 2022, she decided to slowly get back to the badminton scene due to her passion for badminton. She posted a video online to express her frustration shortly after BAM’s verdict of banning her for two years. She said that badminton is the only thing she’s good at, banning her from the international tournament would leave her no path of making a living.
Wish Goh Jin Wei and BAM could reach a positive outcome in regards to the 2-year ban decision.
