Cuttack: Malaysia’s World No. 288 men’s doubles pair – Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub Azriyn/Lim Khim Wah was made to work before winning the semi-final match of the Odisha Open that was held in Cuttack, India on Saturday.
Azriyn/Lim needed 53 minutes to see off the spirited challenge from World No. 87 Sachin Dias/Buwaneka Goonethilleka of Sri Lanka 15-21, 21-18, 21-17. The Malaysian duo will face World No. 198 Ravikrishna PS/Sankar Prasad Udayakumar of India Sunday for a chance to win the BWF Tour Super 100 event.
On the other side of the globe, Malaysia has two men’s singles players, and two men’s doubles pairs successfully cruised into the 2022 Ukraine Open semi-finals.
The World No. 369 Lee Shun Yang will face World No. 69 Christo Popov of France in the men’s singles last four while World No. 428 Ong Ken Yon is set to take on World No. 90 Luka Wraber of Austria for a spot in the Ukraine Open final.
Meanwhile, Malaysia will be guaranteed a silver medal when the World No. 270 Chang Yee Jun/Yap Roy King and World No. 279 Chia Wei Jie/Low Hang Yee set up an all-Malaysian semi-final clash at the Ukraine Open.
As the Russia-Ukraine tensions seemed to have reached the point of no return, hope all athletes could complete the Ukraine Open and return to their countries safely.
