Jakarta: The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has confirmed that its men’s doubles coach – Flandy Limpele has decided not to renew his contract with BAM despite the effort of extending his contract with new terms.

BAM said that Limpele will leave the association effective April 1st, 2022.

Meanwhile, the Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI) also officially announced on Monday that Flandy Limpele has been appointed as the mixed doubles coach and is set to start his job in April.

“It is true that Flandy will join the PBSI this April. Flandy will be part of the mixed doubles team. We’re pleased to have him join our team,” said Rionny Mainaky, PBSI’s Head of Development and Achievement.

“We chose Flandy because he is a very experienced coach, and has a very strong track record both as a coach and as a player. At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, he successfully guided Malaysia’s men’s doubles – Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik to a bronze medal,” added Mainaky.

Rionny also said that Limpele had also achieved great results for Indonesia in both men’s doubles and mixed doubles in his playing days.

“As a player, he and Eng Hian won bronze at the 2004 Athens Olympics. In 2008, he and Vita Marissa had reached the semi-finals of the Beijing Olympics. We hope he could share his experiences with our shuttlers,” continued Mainaky.

PBSI hoped that Limpele would assist Nova Widianto, who is now PBSI’s mixed doubles coach, to at least send two mixed doubles pairs to the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“I also hope that Flandy and Nova could work together so that Indonesia could have two mixed doubles pairs qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics,” explained Mainaky.
