Kuala Lumpur: According to Malaysian media, the current mixed doubles head coach for the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has been offered an agreement to work with the association until 2024.

BAM’s doubles coaching director Rexy Mainaky said that BAM is currently waiting for a response from Paulus whose contract will expire on April 26.

“We have already started the negotiations and submitted an offer to him in January because we know there are a lot of things that need to be completed including involving Paulus’s work permit,” said Mainaky.

“So, now it is up to Paulus to decide whether to accept the offer or not. He is currently on vacation for a week in Jakarta and will return next week,” added Mainaky.

“I believe after he returns, we will all know the result,” explained Mainaky.

Firman was with BAM for 10 months in 2013 but resigned and accepted an offer as the head coach of the Philippines.

He returned to BAM in 2018 as the men’s doubles head coach before being assigned the task as mixed doubles head coach in May of 2020.

Firman has been instrumental in helping Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik to break into the world’s top 10 rankings, and also improving the performance of two Malaysian mixed doubles pairs, Hoo Pang Ron/Cheah Yee See and Chen Tang Jie/Peck Yen Wei who contributed to Malaysia’s success in reaching the semi-finals of the Sudirman Cup in Vantaa, Finland, last year.
