Kuala Lumpur: The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has called in 25 players to participate in the 2022 Thomas & Uber Cup training camp.
In a statement released by BAM, the men’s singles department was spearheaded by the World No. 7 Lee Zii Jia.
BAM also added an experienced player Daren Liew to the men’s singles category.
“Twenty five players have been called up to join the national badminton squad centralised training camp for the 2022 Thomas & Uber Cup finals scheduled to take place in Bangkok, Thailand from May 8-15.
A total of 24 players (maximum of 12 men & 12 women) would be going for Bangkok on May 5. April 22 is the final date to submit the definitive squad list to the world badminton governing body, the Badminton World Federation (BWF).
Malaysia are drawn in Group D of the Thomas Cup with 2014 champions Japan, England and New Zealand while in the Uber Cup, Malaysia are drawn in Group C alongside 2018 runners-up Thailand, Denmark and Egypt,” wrote BAM in the statement.
Meanwhile, for the Uber Cup squad, former two-time world junior champions – Goh Jin Wei who advanced to the quarter-finals of the Korea Open last week, was also called to join the training camp.
The 2022 Thomas Cup and Uber Cup Finals will be held in Bangkok, from May 8 to May 15.
