With strong support from the home crowd, Teo/Ong started the second-round match by firing on all cylinders, with their shot-making prowess and sheer athleticism combining to make it a difficult day for the Taiwanese pair.

The win was Teo/Ong’s second consecutive victory over Lee/Wang after beating the same opponents in a rubber set in the quarterfinals of the 2021 World Championships.

“I am happy with our win today. We didn’t think too much before the match, we were only trying to score one point at a time,” said Ong after the match.

In a one-sided second-round match, another Malaysian men’s pair – the World No. 6 Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik produced a brilliant display to beat Terry Hee Yong Kai/Loh Kean Hean of Singapore 21-16, 21-13. Chia/Soh wiil take on “The Daddies” – Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan of Indonesia next.

The World No. 12 and 2022 German Open men’s doubles champions Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin didn’t break a sweat in the second round after receiving a walkover from Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty of India. Goh/Izzuddin will meet Liu Yu Chen/Ou Xuan Yi of China on Friday.

In women’s doubles, Malaysia’s World No. 44 Teoh Mei Xing/Anna Cheong pulled off a huge upset when they defeated World No. 3 pair from South Korea, Lee So Hee/Shin Seung Chan to advance to the quarterfinals of the Malaysian Open, today.

“The drift inside the stadium was very strong and the Korean duo was not comfortable playing with that type of condition. So, we took this opportunity to clinch the victory,” said Teoh.

Teoh/Cheong are set to face World No. 6 Mayu Matsumoto/Wakana Nagahara of Japan in the next round.
