Birmingham: Chan Peng Soon/Cheah Yee See, Ng Tze Yong, Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik moved past their respective opponents in the 2022 Commonwealth Games mixed team semi-final to give Malaysia a 3-0 win over England on Monday.

Chan/Cheah rallied from one set down to beat World No. 11 Marcus Ellis/Lauren Smith of England 12-21, 21-18, 21-13 to give Malaysia a 1-0 head start.

World No. 44 Ng Tze Yong then opened up a 2-0 lead by breaking World No. 55 Toby Penty of England 21-13, 21-14.

In the men’s doubles match that followed, World No. 6 Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik of Malaysia sealed the victory by outlasting World No. 19 Ben Lane/Sean Vendy 21-17, 21-18.

Malaysia is set to take on India in the mixed team final on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the defending champions India stormed into the final by beating Singapore 3-0 in the semi-final tie.

India’s World No. 8 men’s doubles pair of Satwik Sairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Chandrashekhar Shetty took the men’s doubles match in a straight game before World No.7 PV Sindhu beat World No. 19 Yeo Jia Min 21-11, 21-12 in the women’s singles match.

India wrapped up the proceeding when World No. 10 Lakshya Sen overcame reigning world champion and World No. 9, Loh Kean Yew, in the men’s singles match by 21-18, and 21-15.

In the final which will take place at the National Exhibition Centre, India who beat Malaysia 3-1 in the 2018 Commonwealth Games mixed team final has the advantage in men’s singles, and women’s singles over Malaysia. However, if Malaysia could steal a point from India through men’s doubles, Malaysia has a strong chance of winning the mixed team gold as its women’s doubles and mixed doubles pairs are more experienced and more skilled compared to the Indian pairs.
