Tai Tzu Ying Rolls in Denmark Open First Round With Scorpion Style Shot

Odense: Taiwan’s World No. 2 Tai Tzu Ying who is bidding for her third Denmark Open crown, demonstrated an exceptional behind-the-back scorpion-style shot during her opening match against World No. 12 Busanan Ongbamrungphan of Thailand on Wednesday.

A commentator from BWF was amazed and said Tai emulated the scorpion style from Malaysia’s men’s doubles world champion – Aaron Chia.

Tai ultimately defeated Ongbamrungphan 21-16, 21-15, and will play Aya Ohori in the second round. Tai currently held a 7-0 career head-to-head victory against Ohori.

In the rematch of the 2022 BWF World Championships men’s singles final, the World No. 1 Viktor Axelsen from Denmark extended his six consecutive wins over World No. 10 Kunlavut Vitidsarn by beating the Thai player 21-16, 21-8.

Axelsen is scheduled to meet compatriot Rasmus Gemke next.

In men’s doubles, the reigning World Champions – Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik overcame Mark Lamsfuss/Marvin Seidel of Germany 21-18, 21-19 to meet Lucas Corvee/Ronan Labar of France on Thursday.

Malaysia’s World No. 13 mixed doubles pair – Goh Soon Huat/Shevon Jemie Lai also advanced to the second round after seeing off Lee Jhe Huei/Hsu Ya Ching of Taiwan 21-18, 21-11 to play compatriots – the World No. 10 Tan Kian Meng/Lai Pei Jing in the second round.
