Dubai: Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei exacted revenge on Kim Won Ho/Jeong Na Eun when the Malaysians beat the mixed doubles World No. 10 Korean pair 21-14, 21-13 in the first round of the 2023 Badminton Asia Championships (BAC) on Tuesday.

The World No. 22 Chen/Toh lost to Kim/Jeong in the quarter-finals of the German Open on March 10, 2023, and will play 2020 All England champions Praveen Jordan/Melati Daeva Oktavianti of Indonesia in the BAC second round.

Also advanced was Malaysia’s World No. 8 Goh Soon Huat/Shevon Jemie Lai, as they came back from the verge of defeat to eventually beat Taiwanese pair – Ye Hong Wei/Lee Chia Hsin 15-21, 22-20, 21-15.

After losing the first game, Goh/Lai were trailing 19-20 in the second game, before reeling off 3 consecutive points to force a decider. Goh/Lai will meet Cheng Xing/Chen Fang Hui of China next.

However, Malaysia’s World No. 13 Tan Kian Meng/Lai Pei Jing failed to enter the next round after going down to the hands of China’s rising mixed pair – Jiang Zhen Bang/Wei Ya Xin 17-21, 13-21.

Meanwhile, Malaysia’s independent women’s doubles pair – Ng Qi Xuan/Teoh Le Xuan successfully made the main draw and will play No. 1 seeds Chen Qing Chen/Jia Yi Fan of China in the first round on Wednesday.
