Phnom Penh: Facing Malaysia in the badminton men’s team final, Indonesia defeated Malaysia 3-1 at the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia when the 2022 Badminton Asian Championships men’s doubles gold medalists Pramudya Kusumawardana/Yeremia Rambitan of Indonesia defeated Chia Weijie/Liew Xun of Malaysia 13-21, 21-16, 21-16 in the second men’s doubles match to clinch the gold medal for Indonesia.

Indonesia vs. Malaysia At the 2023 SEA Games Men’s Team Final:

Malaysia started the proceeding positively when Leong Jun Hao collected Malaysia’s first point by beating Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo 21-16, 21-13 in the first men’s singles match.

Malaysia’s first men’s doubles pair Goh Boon Zhee/Rayner Beh Chun Meng however failed to continue the momentum when they lost to 2022 All England champions – Bagas Maulana/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri 12-21, 20-22.

Christian Adinata gave Indonesia a 2-1 lead when he outlasted Lee Shun Yang 21-17, 21-9 in the second men’s singles match.

Although Pramudya Kusumawardana/Yeremia Rambitan lost the first game 13-21, they came back in the third set to beat Chia Weijie/Liew Xun 21-16, 21-16 to help Indonesia win its 18th SEA Games men’s team gold medal.

Chia Weijie, when met after the match, admitted that their hard work had not been enough to overcome the Indonesian pair.

“We have done our best and we have to admit that the opponents played better today. They are also more experienced and their shots are better,” said Chia.

This achievement also made up for Indonesia’s failure in Vietnam SEA Games last year where it only won bronze.

Meanwhile, Thailand saw off Indonesia 3-0 to win the women’s team gold.
