Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia’s World No. 10 Lee Zii Jia, has taken a decisive step towards securing his place in the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics. He has handpicked Wong Tat Meng, a former top Malaysian men’s singles badminton player, to assume the role of Coaching Director for Team LZJ.

An official statement was shared on the Team LZJ Twitter page, formally announcing Wong Tat Meng as the coach for Lee Zii Jia.

“It is with great pleasure that we announce the appointment of Mr. Wong Tat Meng as the new Coaching Director for Team LZJ.

Coach Tat Meng brings a wealth of experience from his coaching stints with the Malaysian national team, Indonesia, Scotland, South Korea, and recently Hong Kong.

He will begin working with Lee Zii Jia as soon as his relocation process from Hong Kong to Malaysia is sorted out.”

Wong Tat Meng’s primary objective will revolve around devising a personalized training program aimed at nurturing consistent performances, elevating Lee Zii Jia’s global rankings, and ultimately securing his qualification for the highly anticipated 2024 Paris Olympics.

One of the notable highlights in Wong Tat Meng’s coaching career was his instrumental role in leading the South Korean women’s team to a remarkable victory in the Uber Cup 2022, held at Thailand’s Impact Arena. The thrilling tie witnessed South Korea triumph over defending champions China with a score of 3-2, clinching their second Uber Cup title since their initial triumph in 2010.

Lee Zii Jia has been operating without the guidance of a dedicated full-time coach after parting ways with Indra Wijaya of Indonesia, last November.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong’s World No.14 player Angus Ng Ka Long posted his dissatisfaction of Wong leaving the Hong Kong team only 3 months before the Asian Games and roughly a year before the Paris Olympics with the following post:
