Congratulations to Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei for winning the 2023 Taipei Open.

Taipei: World No. 19 mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei won their third title this season by clinching the 2023 Taipei Open on Sunday. They defeated Taiwan’s Chiu Hsiang Chieh/Lin Xiao Min in straight sets 21-12, 21-8. They also won their first BWF World Tour title at the Orleans Masters in France last April by defeating another Taiwanese pair – Ye Hong Wei/Lee Chia Hsin 21-19, 21-17.

Highlights of Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei vs. Chiu Hsiang Chieh/Lin Xiao Min in the 2023 Taipei Open final:

The win ended Malaysia’s 19-year drought of winning the Taipei Open mixed doubles title after Koo Kien Keat/Wong Pei Tty won it in 2004.

According to Malaysia’s mixed doubles coach – Nova Widianto, the victory was seen as a positive development for both Tang and Toh even though it was just a Super 300-level tournament.

“It’s not easy to win today because they’ve played six tournaments in a row but I’m happy they stayed focused,” said Widianto.

“Tang Jie and Ee Wei showed strong control from the beginning they did not allow the opponent to dominate the match,” added Widianto.

“And today’s action is the result of learning and improving from their performance at the Indonesia Open and throughout this time in Taiwan they played quite well and were more focused and made fewer mistakes,” concluded Widianto.

In women’s singles, Tai Tzu Ying successfully won her fifth Taipei Open women’s singles title.

The Badminton commentator Gill Clark mentioned in her Twitter that
“In winning the #TaipeiOpen2023 Tai Tzu Ying becomes the FIRST women’s singles player to win the SAME tournament 5 times during the Superseries, Grand Prix Gold and World Tour era.
In winning her 5th title at the #TaipeiOpen while contesting her 6th final (11 years after her first) she also broke the previous record apparently held by me at this particular event. 😂😂
… for the record, I was only one of several players to win 4 titles in Taipei.”

The women’s doubles final saw Lee Yu Lim/Shin Seung Chan of Korea defeat Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma/Amalia Cahaya Pratiwi of Indonesia 18-21, 21-17, 21-17 to win the title.
