Kuala Lumpur: The pairing of Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei is swiftly carving a name for themselves in the mixed doubles category.
Despite only being paired together for nine months, they have already made a significant impact on the international scene by going up the BWF world ranking to World No. 11. They are now the No. 1 mixed doubles pair in Malaysia, surpassing World No. 12 Goh Soon Huat/Shevon Jemie Lai and World No. 23 Tan Kian Meng/Lai Pei Jing.
Their rise to prominence can be attributed to their relentless determination and unwavering dedication. Under the guidance of Nova Widianto, Malaysia’s mixed doubles coach, they have honed their skills and techniques.
Nova sees in them the potential to crack the world’s top 10 but emphasizes the importance of cultivating a “winner’s mindset.”
“They need to stay on track and tackle challenges step by step,” Nova remarked. “Ultimately, I’m eager to see them secure a spot at the Paris Olympics.”
The upcoming China Open offers Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei an excellent platform to display their skills. Their first challenge is against India’s Rohan Kapoor/Reddy Sikki.
“After the World Championships, we only have less than a week to prepare for the China Open, there is not much we can do. I hope they stay focused and keep fighting,” added Widianto.
“For me the votes for this tournament are OK and I believe they can produce good results,” continued Widianto.
A tougher battle is predicted in the subsequent round, where they might face the tournament’s sixth seeds, Kim Won Ho/Jeong Na Eun from South Korea.
However, the Malaysian pair remains undaunted. They believe in their capability to stand toe-to-toe with the world’s elite.
While the China Open is undoubtedly a significant benchmark for Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei, it also presents them a chance to globally showcase their caliber. A stellar performance there could propel them closer to their Olympic dreams.
Combining their innate talent, rigorous training, and sheer will, Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei are indeed an emerging mixed doubles star in badminton.
