KUALA LUMPUR: National coach Tan Kim Her will know his role in the national team soon.
Kim Her’s two-year contract ends this month but the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) have yet to bind him with a new contract.
Asked about his status, former doubles chief coach Kim Her said: “I will leave it to BAM to deal with the matter. For now, I will just continue with my job as the coach.”
At the last Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) council meeting, president Tan Sri Tengku Mahaleel Tengku Ariff had stated that Kim Her was no longer an assessor.
Kim Her now serves as a full-time coach and has five relatively new pairs, who were recently promoted from the Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS), under him.
The top five pairs – Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong, Hoon Thien How-Tan Wee Kiong, Lim Khim Wah-Goh V Shen, Ow Yao Han-Teo Kok Siang and Chooi Kah Ming-Nelson Heg Wei Keat – train under Pang Cheh Chang.
Meanwhile, there is still no news on former international Yap Kim Hock’s application to rejoin BAM. The 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games silver medallist had submitted an official letter before last month’s Malaysian Open to assist the men’s doubles department.
