Indonesia’s Thomas Cup and Uber Cup badminton teams departed for India for the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup championship from May 18 to 25. Prior to their departure, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono led a special ceremony in which each player kissed the red-and-white national flag.
Chairman of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) Gita Wirjawan said Indonesia’s strongest opponent will be China. Indonesia will have to rely on its men’s doubles because China has no shortage of strong men’s singles, such as Lin Dan and Chen Long.
The 10 men and 10 women had undergone two months of intensive training for the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup.
“You all are well trained, let’s go and win the trophies in India,” President Yudhoyono said at the State Palace.
“We’ve done all the preparation. The teams are ready to fight,” Thomas Cup team manager Christian Hadinata said.
