Kuala Lumpur – The Badminton Association Malaysia (BAM) announced on Monday that after a long and careful discussion, Daren Liew has been selected to replace world number one Lee Chong Wei for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
“The player was selected based on their competition performance, NSI report, their attitude during training and overall discipline,” said BAM general manager Kenny Goh.
“Liew was listed as the reserve player back when we submitted the list to Olympic Council Malaysia in May,” said Kenny.
“We have seen improvement on his games during and after Thomas Cup, therefore, we’ve agreed that he is the best candidate to fill Chong Wei’s spot,” added Kenny Goh.
