London: The England Para-Badminton team found more than they bargained for after travelling to Sheffield last month for their European preparation camp.Athletes of England Para-Badminton squad

The Sheffield Performance Centre and Westfield Junior Badminton Club sent players and coaches to attend the camp to provide a little extra sparring and variety to the group ahead of the forthcoming Europeans Championship.

The championship is being held in Murcia, Spain, from 11-14 September and England have a great opportunity to bring home some medals.

Martin Rooke is favourite to bring home the gold in the men’s singles in the WH2 category, with Daniel Bethell, Bobby Griffin and Paula Robinson also looking to bring home some silverware.

World Silver medallists Jack Shepherd and Kysten Coombs are looking for gold this time around in the men’s doubles SS6, while Andy Martin is looking to seek revenge against Irish rival Niall McVeigh in the SS6 men’s singles.

Shepherd said: “It was the best camp to date and it was great preparation to play against the young talent that Sheffield has to offer.”

The England Para Badminton Team brought a record-breaking 11 medals home from the exiting World Championships last year in Germany and they will be hoping to do even better at the tournament next week.
