Jakarta: After winning four out of five titles in the 2014 Vietnam Grand Prix Open last week, Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI) is eyeing at least two titles in the 2014 Yonex Indonesian Masters Grand Prix Gold, taking place in Palembang from September 9 to 14.
With the depth on its roster, PBSI is expecting second seed Ricky Karanda Suwardi / Berry Angriawan and third seed Nayaka Arya Pankaryanira / Ade Yusuf to capture the men’s doubles title; while Riky Widianto / Richi Puspita Dili, Alfian Eko Prasetya / Annisa Saufika, Edi Subaktiar / Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja are potential winners for the mixed doubles title.
“In addition to men’s doubles and mixed doubles, we are also hoping for surprises from men’s singles and women’s doubles,” said Maria Fransisca – Indonesian team manager.
In the first round match on Tuesday, Indonesian mixed doubles pair Hardianto / Della Destiara Harris started the first game well by defeating compatriot, Rian Swastedian / Ni Ketut Mahadewi Istarani in straight games 21-15, 21-12.
Even though this is their first appearance as a pair, Della and Hardianto admitted they are playing well together.
“I started the match a little clumsy, fortunately we finished the match solidly,” said Hardianto.
Della and Hardianto will face another compatriot, Fran Kurniawan / Shendy Puspa Irawati a more experience pair in the second round.
